frequently asked questions
High quality chain (we use 14k gold filled and 925 silver) is welded together to create a clasp-less, seamless piece of jewelry. You'll never have to worry about taking it off.
Children under 18 years old are welcome to receive permanent jewelry services ONLY WITH PARENTAL CONSENT. Parent/guardian will be required to sign our Customer Intake Form for their child.
For kids under 12 years old, a clasp is RECOMMENDED.
Safety is one of our main priorities. We have invested in the number one rated permanent jewelry micro-welder to create the safest experience for our clients. The weld is complete with one simple spark. We provide safety welding goggles. A barrier is placed on your skin to ensure your skin never comes in contact with our machine.
Argon gas is an inert gas. It is non-toxic and non-flammable. Argon is a shielding gas that protects welds from oxidation and corrosion, ensuring a high quality weld.
Permanent jewelry is not recommended if you have any allergies to gold, silver, or if you have a pacemaker.
Welding permanent jewelry on clients is not recommended for individuals with a pacemaker, metal plates or recent surgery, or unable to sit still (children). For these individuals, we will not weld the jewelry, but will use the Wrap-On© Technique instead. See video below.
Consult your doctor if you will be required to remove your permanent jewelry during your X-ray or MRI appointment. You will need to remove your jewelry before an MRI if your physician requires you to. Speak with your physician before an MRI. They will advise whether or not it will need to be removed.
All ferrous metals (ie. stainless steel) must be removed prior to entering the MRI exam room. If you are aren’t sure if your jewelry contains ferrous metals, you can use a magnet at home and test in on your own. If the magnet tries to attracts the jewelry, it can not enter an MRI exam room. Gold and pure sterling silver are non-ferrous, however, depending on how large the jewelry is and how close it is to the part of the body you are having scanned, your doctor may ask you to remove it.
If your doctor requires you to remove your welded jewelry for your appointment, contact us by email (hello@stackandzap.com) or on our social media platforms to schedule a re-weld free of charge. Cut at the welding site (jump ring) that attaches the chain together to ensure the cleanest look for re-welding. You can also make an appointment with us to professionally remove it.
Definitely! We have flown far and wide with our jewelry on without a problem.
Your permanent jewelry will last months to years depending on the chain material, products you use (avoid direct contact with lotions, perfumes, and chemicals on your jewelry), and your lifestyle. With proper care, it can last for years to come.
Using a pair of scissors, wire cutters, or fingernail clippers, simply cut the welded jump ring. We will show you the welding site during your appointment. If you are still unsure, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

We only use 14k yellow gold filled, 14k rose gold filled and 925 sterling silver for our permanent jewelry. These materials are tarnish resistant and hypoallergenic.
Our chains are 14k gold filled, not gold plated (aka gold dipped).
Gold-plated has a very thin layer of gold over an unknown base metal, making it prone to tarnishing, wear, and damage from chemical exposure, skin chemistry, and moisture. The unknown base metal may cause allergies for some individuals. Not suitable for permanent jewelry.
Gold filled (what we use) has a thick, 5% layer of gold that is bonded over a Jeweler’s brass, making it water resistant, tarnish resistant, and long lasting to withstand chemical exposure, skin chemistry, and moisture. It is hypoallergenic because of its thick gold layer. Perfect for permanent jewelry.
